To celebrate Small Business Week (April 28-May 4, 2024), we’ve asked GoCo employees across the country to list some of their most beloved small businesses in their city.

Next up, we have Nikki Boehm, VP of Marketing at GoCo. Nikki lived in the Philadelphia area for over 20 years.

Check out her small business recommendations below!

1. For the Best Cup of Coffee: Old City Coffee

Address: 221 Church Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

“Old City Coffee is a 100% Philadelphia-metro operated business with dedicated, knowledgeable staff to help you choose varieties, roasts, and brewing techniques. They roast only high-grade Arabica high grown coffee. Their delicious coffee is the freshest available because they roast tiny batches. While I admit to not being a big coffee expert, my brother swears by this as the go-to spot.”

2. For Parents of Babies & Toddlers: Small Talk

Address: Classes are offered at indoor & outdoor locations in the greater Philadelphia area. See class schedule for dates and specific locations.

“If you are looking for a way to meet other parents and get an early head start exposing your child to language-enriching activities developed by certified speech-language pathologists, Small Talk is perfect. Their classes focus on empowering caregivers by giving you proven strategies to increase your child’s communication skills and decrease frustration. Small Talk classes are intended for children 6-36 months and their caregivers.”

3. For the Best Buffalo Chicken Anything: Meglio’s Wood Fired Pizzeria

Address: 3 N. Sycamore Street, Newtown, PA

“Ok, technically this isn’t in Philadelphia. But if you want to explore a nearby and quaint town, then you should venture to Newtown, PA. This town has plenty of amazing Italian restaurants, but Meglio’s is my personal favorite casual spot to get buffalo chicken pizza, buffalo chicken cheesesteaks, or even buffalo chicken egg rolls! If you are a buffalo chicken lover like me, give this place a try.”

4. For a Taste of Local Brews: Yards Brewing Company

Address: 500 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123

“Yards Brewing Company is Philadelphia's premier craft brewery, offering a wide selection of beers that capture the spirit of the city. From their signature Philly Pale Ale to innovative seasonal brews, Yards has been a staple in the local craft beer scene since its inception. Their taproom on Spring Garden Street is a welcoming space where visitors can enjoy fresh beers, take a tour of the brewery, and even indulge in a menu full of delicious, beer-infused dishes. Yards' commitment to sustainability and community engagement, including their "Brew Unto Others" motto, exemplifies the best of Philly's small business ethos.”
